Minoru Sasaki
Minoru Sasaki is a Japanese artist born in Morioka City and currently based in Tokyo. His interest in words and symbols was nurtured by his childhood interest in calligraphy, and he began exploring his own unique style of creation when he was a teenager. He deepened his exploration by studying aesthetics at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and linguistics at EHESS in Paris, and after returning to Japan, he gradually solidified his own path.
Words and letters Sasaki calls "signs." As Sasaki began to think about the relationship between "signs" and people, he began to feel that "signs" themselves are symbols of people themselves, which inspired him to create the "イ充つ" series, in which only "イ" is marked. The "イ" series is not simply drawings of "イ", but rather half-sculptures of "イ" that are filled with fragility and vitality.
In this exhibition at Ogu Mag, Sasaki's new works and old works from his "イ充つ" series, which he has been working on since 2015, will be displayed in the gallery and café space on the first floor, and in the shared residence on the second floor, where the artists live together.
Sasaki, who is sensitive to words and letters as socially shared norms and to the realities of human beings who stray from these norms, will put her whole heart and soul into the various "イ" marks on the paper. Please experience the "signs" that Sasaki marks on the paper. It may be an opportunity for the viewer to take a new approach to daily events and to his or her own inner self.
