Misaki Ishikawa "Pray For Negative Hands"

Gallery K
Finished

Artists

Misaki Ishikawa
The cave paintings left behind by ancient people include those known as "negative hands", in which the outlines of hands are copied by spraying pigments on them. They are drawn in a negative way instead of a positive way in which pigments are directly applied to the hand. A portrayal of this phenomenon was painted by Ishikawa when the pandemic broke out in 2020. As a result of the first state of emergency, the gallery was closed for two months, so nobody was able to see the artwork during that time. It is now three years later that the artist revives the negative hand, thinking it is also a time to reflect on these unprecedented three years that everyone has been through.
