Artists

Mitsumasa Anno
Renowned landscape painter Mitsumasa Anno, who traveled the world, shared a close friendship with Ryotaro Shiba, the author of "The Roads to Sata." They traveled together for five years until Shiba's passing. After Shiba's death, Anno revisited the towns Shiba had explored and lyrically depicted those landscapes. Please enjoy the scenic views of the towns that hold memories for them.

Additionally, the "Rakuchu Rakugai" series, comprising approximately 95 pieces created between 2011 and 2018, is featured in this exhibition. Specifically, 33 pieces focusing on Kyoto and, particularly, the Tango region are on display. Yasuno has explored various locations in Kyoto, capturing his favorite spots. Regarding painting the landscapes of Tango, he often expressed, "Tango is also outside of Rakugai (outside the city of Kyoto)," and revisited the region multiple times.

Discover which places held a special significance for Anno, where he wanted to see and felt a deep nostalgia. Explore how he observed and portrayed the Tango region.
