Miyuki Inagaki
This exhibition, Miyuki Inagaki's first solo show at our gallery in two years, will feature new oil paintings, ceramics, and other three-dimensional works created from scenes she encountered on the remote island of Toba, Mie Prefecture, which she has been visiting continuously since 2018.

Inagaki says that one of her motivations for creating art is to think and imagine "what the world spread out in front of me looked like," including various environments such as her situation and the understanding of others. Inagaki observes the environment around her and reconstructs the scenery that emerges from the accumulation of her daily life, the memories and textures that reside in the place, and the fragments of images she obtains by touching the place, while confirming them on the canvas.

Inagaki also continues to make repeated visits to the places she visits as an important part of her work. For Inagaki, this is not a major practice, but rather an exploration of the landscape as an extension of her daily life, and through the sensation of repeatedly going back and forth and being struck back and forth, the interaction with the surroundings and environment, including the eyes of living creatures and others, and the legends left behind in the area, Inagaki feels something that is not only real but is also a kind of imagination and playfulness of human origin. In her paintings and exhibition space, she attempts to depict something that is not only real but also a slice of a story spun by human imagination and playful actions.

The title of this exhibition, "Vortex and Shikaku," is named after a building and the snails that make the building their home on a remote island in Toba, Mie Prefecture, which Inagaki has been visiting continuously since around 2018.

The exhibition will feature abstract paintings with striking colors, collages composed of different materials, and ceramic sculptures, which have been seen in this year's exhibition. Since the beginning of her career, Inagaki has always been aware that painting is an expression that includes the space in which the paintings exist, and this exhibition will be a display of her awareness of what she calls "pictorial space."
