Motoyuki Sakamoto "Ceramics by Motoyuki Sakamoto — The Dense World —"

Gallery Ueda

Artists

Motoyuki Sakamoto
This exhibition presents the latest works that can be regarded as a culmination of Sakamoto’s inlay technique. In the series composed in black and white, emotional expression through color is intentionally eliminated in order to pursue the “density of existence” inherent in material and form. The very processes of making—carving, embedding, layering—constitute the meaning of each work. Sakamoto states that he aims to “break through the stagnation of contemporary ceramics and drive a stake of existence into a world increasingly governed by AI.” This remark reflects his belief in the power of the irrational within modern society. The time of the hand—something neither rational nor efficient—remains unmistakably inscribed in these works. A serene world reached through extreme precision unfolds here. Motoyuki Sakamoto’s densely constructed vision emerges within the space of Ginza.
