We are pleased to announce Limbs, Anatomy, Grandview our 5th solo exhibition with Osaka born (1972), Los Angeles based artist, Naotaka Hiro. Hiro’s recent institutional exhibitions include What It Becomes, Whitney Museum of American Art (2024/25); Paintings Paintings, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2024/25); Shadow Tracer, Aspen Art Museum (2022) and New Abstracts : Recent Acquisitions, Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Hiro’s work was featured in Mori Art Museum curator Mami Kataoka’s exhibition Earth,Wind and Fire : Visions of the Future of Asia presented at the Okura Museum of art under the aegis of Art Week Tokyo (2024).

Limbs, Anatomy, Grandview, consistent with Hiro’s career-spanning practice, considers the unknowability of the body – his own and more generally – and the possibilities of understanding offered via mediated imagery. On the present exhibition, which features three large scale works – two on canvas, one on wooden panel -, Hiro states :

The exhibition titled “Limbs, Anatomy, Grandview” encompasses three distinct works. “Limbs” refers to the position and movement of the body as it spreads across the canvas. “Anatomy” highlights the practical color-coding techniques used to represent movement and position in informational graphics, such as anatomical charts or maps. Meanwhile, “Grandview” reflects my subjective perspective and personal landscape observed on the canvas during the creation process. It encapsulates my viewpoint and experiences while working on the artwork.
