Artists

Korin Ogata, Ninsei Nonomura et al.
The collection of the MOA Art Museum consists mainly of Oriental art, including Japanese and Chinese art, collected by the museum's founder, Mokichi Okada (1882 - 1955). The collection includes a wide variety of paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, and crafts, and includes works that are indispensable to the art and culture of each period. Among them, the National Treasure “The Red and White Plum Blossoms" is highly regarded as the masterpiece of Korin Ogata, a painter of the mid-Edo period. In this work, white and red plum blossoms face each other against a background of gold on a pair of folding screens, and the design of plum blossoms and water streams are arranged to create a decorative screen.

In addition to the simultaneous display of three National Treasures, “The Red and White Plum Blossoms," "Tea Jar with Wisteria and Flowers in Iroe" by Ninsei Nonomura, a great master of Kyoto pottery, and “Kanbokujo," one of the three most famous handbooks in the collection, this exhibition will feature a selection of masterpieces representing each genre in the collection.
