Nesta Or Wing-yan

With the support of soundpocket and Art Center Ongoing, Nesta Or Wing-yan is now in Tokyo for a one-month artist residency. In late June, Nesta will present her solo exhibition “The Third-Person Album”. This project was inspired by the contents of several photo albums from a relative who had traveled in Japan 30 years ago, and unfolds into a time-traveling journey through Japan which is at times a pursuit, at times a coexistence, and at times a drifting apart from the relative; Nesta and this person are bonded by blood yet distant in reality. Through the photo albums and her residency in Japan, Nesta tries to intervene in their relative’s past travels and simultaneously experience the present of Japan, weaving connections with the memories embedded in these places.

In this exhibition, Nesta creates new works using existing materials from her family, and new materials collected during the residency in the form of photographs, field recordings of the surroundings, and conversations, sketches, and writings. The works will show her inspiration by the fictional parts of reality, and how she attempts to sketch metaphors in life and establishes her own way to narrate emotions.
