New Eyes" is a series of exhibitions by the Hongo Shin Memorial Museum of Sculpture, Sapporo. This year's exhibition, the fourth in five years, focuses on the theme of "the gaze.” The gaze is a complex intermingling of gazes, touching, overlapping, deflecting, and being deflected by others and the self. The gazes exchanged by the figures in the paintings reveal a sense of drama. Even words seem to emerge from the gaze of a single statue. This exhibition will provide an opportunity to reconsider the nature of communication within the range of the gaze. The exhibitors include painters Sachiko Kunimatsu, Chisei Kobayashi, and Kiriko Nozawa, and sculptors Keiji Iwanaga and Kazuaki Sato.
