Nanzuka is pleased to present “Dance with Me,” a solo exhibition of new works by Nimyu at Nanzuka 2G. The exhibition is curated by AKIINOUE.
Nimyu was born in China, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and later from the New York Academy of Art, and currently lives and works in Tokyo. The artist has exhibited not only in Japan but also in Asia, the United States, and Europe, expanding the scope of their activities worldwide.
The surrealistic figures, animals, foods, and events that appear in Nimyu’s works are in a state of both reality and strange fantasy, common to our daily lives. They are visually fascinating, but they are also reflections on human nature and the complex relationships between the individual and the collective, truth and fiction, or the contingent process of our identity formation. These ideas are also connected to Nimyu’s beloved literary works, such as Xiaobo Wang's "A Maverick Pig" and George Orwell's "Animal Farm".
The motifs in the works presented in this exhibition, and the portraits that are smiling lovingly but looking at us strangely, may represent not only the truth of information, but also the dual nature of human beings. We who see the works will naturally question the authenticity of the stories we hear and tell ourselves.
