Nozomi Kimura
monade contemporary | 単子現代 is pleased to present “Relativity of inconvenience II,” a solo exhibition by Nozomi Kimura.

Kimura has been working with animals, history, and stars as her main motifs while experiencing various materials and techniques such as painting, metal carving, and ceramics. The motifs of birds, goats, and livestock overlap with the artist’s own life and thoughts about human history, as if to recapture the activities surrounding freedom and inconvenience that weave through daily life in a calm, yet steadfast light.

In this exhibition, Kimura reflects on her recent creative activities, more than 10 years after her solo exhibition “Relativity of Inconvenience” in 2014, and reexamines her worldview on inconvenience. Ceramics depicting birds soaring high in the sky and livestock gathering on the ground, birds flying around cages that confine other birds, and cups featuring motifs of livestock and birds, when placed along with historical events printed and fading on thermal paper or constellations pierced as specimens into handmade recycled paper, the relationship between freedom and constraint is interpreted within the context of human history.

What constellations of relationships — between animals, between people, and between people and animals — will be depicted, and what histories will unfold, as the quiet flow of daily life transforms into a rhythm wavering between freedom and inconvenience? Please participate in the square of relationships, conceived as an allegory of the lives caught in the struggle between freedom and restriction.
