The Museum of Fine Arts, Shiga (then the Museum of Modern Art, Shiga), which opened in 1984, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024. To commemorate this occasion, we will hold an exhibition that offers a panoramic view of Yuki Ogura, who made a great contribution to the formation of the museum's collection.

The exhibition will feature works from the museum's collection from his early to late years and representative works from the museum's various collections and materials such as drafts and manuscripts left in his studio.

Youkame began his career at the Nihon Bijutsu-in (Japan Art Institute), which was founded in Tokyo by artists such as Yokoyama Taikan and Hishida Shunso. The museum has established "modern Japanese painting centering on the Nihon Bijutsu-in" as one of its collection policies and has realized a collection with originality and depth by focusing on the Nihon Bijutsu-in even though it is a museum located in the Kansai region. The collection includes works by his teacher, Yukihiko Yasuda, and his senior colleague, Gyoshu Hayami, who were influential on him.

This exhibition introduces approximately 90 works by these artists, which will be changed during the exhibition period.

Ogura's works have a sense of warmth that seems to contradict his intelligent modeling. Ogura's eye is there, looking at the essence of the subject, rather than at its conception or conception.
