This exhibition explores the idea of presenting the unique works of emerging artists inspired by Okinawa alone as a geographical reference. The aim is to reveal the contemporary characteristics of Okinawa. In doing so, it will reveal, in a comprehensive way, something that is not necessarily painting, and is referred to as ‘Okinawa-ga’.

The framework of 'Okinawa-ga' can be replaced by any art related to Okinawa, and yet take on the local context of Okinawa. What is fascinating is that this approach is not limited to Okinawa's geographic, historical, or cultural conditions. It can be developed to connect with other arts as local knowledge in a broader view, such as the transnational context. (Seiichi Tsuchiya, Director of the exhibition ‘Okinawa-ga’.)
