Open Call Exhibition: BYOW - Bring Your Own Watermelon

HRD Fine Art
Finished
HRD Fine Art will host an open-call, non-juried exhibition titled "Bring Your Own Watermelon" from September 6 (Friday) to October 5 (Saturday), 2024. This exhibition aims to raise humanitarian aid for Palestine/Gaza and marks HRD Fine Art’s first attempt at an open-call exhibition.

As the title suggests, the exhibition will feature works inspired by the fruit watermelon or works using watermelon colors (green, red, white, black). Since the exhibition is held independently, there will be no judging, and all submitted works will be displayed. The exhibition is open to various forms including painting, drawing, illustration, graphic design, photography, printmaking, sculpture, three-dimensional works, ceramics, video, installation, crafts, accessories, poetry, prose, music, sound, and performance. There are no restrictions on the format of submissions, and the exhibition is open to everyone regardless of age.

The colors green, red, white, and black are those of the Palestinian flag, and watermelons depicted in these colors have become symbols of the desire for ceasefire and peace around the world. In Gaza, Palestine, many civilians, including children and newborns, continue to lose their lives daily due to unilateral attacks by the Israeli military, a situation condemned internationally as "genocide (ethnic cleansing)."

This exhibition aims to propose a message of peace and anti-war from Japan, a country with a pacifist constitution, through artwork that utilizes the colors and imagery of "watermelon."
