In 2019, Mask issued an open call for applications to support young artists and welcomed Atsuko Mochida as a new participating artist. At the same time, a long-term project by Atsuko Mochida was initiated to promote the development of the next generation of rare, large-scale works.

As part of this project, in 2021, Mochida created "Taku," a new entrance to Mask, and in 2022, connected that entrance to a huge warehouse area to create "Steps," a spectacular installation that transforms the meaning and perception of place and space.

This year, the culmination of a series of projects, the sculptural form of "Steps" will be pursued in the space following “Taku."
