Opened 30 years ago, the Informel Nakagawamura Museum is known for its unusual architecture, spectacularly developed on a ridge overlooking the mountains, rivers, and valleys of Minami-Shinshu. The building was commissioned by Takashi Suzuki, a businessman, painter, and poet who was sympathetic to the art of the post-World War II French "informel" movement, and commissioned the unique architect, Kikoh Mozuna to build it. Since then, the people of Nakagawamura have preserved it as one of the few contemporary art museums in the prefecture, along with its unique building.

Fascinated by ancient legends and myths, feng shui and the universe, Mozuna deciphered the hidden meanings in the architecture of temples and shrines in various regions and introduced them in his book "Sacred Space Engi. Infusing forgotten wisdom into architecture, he articulated rebirth as an art of symbiosis in the 21st century.

The ambitious expressions presented by seven contemporary artists in this museum's location on this site will provide an opportunity to rekindle a sense of the space in today's post-COVID world.
