Artists

Osamu Kanemura, Sakiko Nomura
Osamu Kanemura has consistently stuck to silver halide film and has been photographing urban city blocks in monochrome for more than 20 years, working energetically since the 1990s. His exhibition at the Nikon Salon, in which he pinned up roll prints with their unevenness and blemishes intentionally left intact all over the walls, won the Ina Nobuo Award in 2014 for its high level of critical awareness of contemporary issues. Recently, his style has changed to include digital works, video works, and handmade photobook production. In this exhibition, Kanamura dares to return to his roots, showing silver halide works and video works taken in the 1990s that capture the flowing urban fragments of Tokyo that he has pursued in the past.

Then there is Sakiko Nomura, who has studied under photographer Nobuyoshi Araki since 1991 and has continued to show a large number of mainly male nudes. Her works have always fascinated viewers because of the tension created by shooting in closed rooms; in 2019, she held a solo exhibition at a museum in Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture, and in 2022, she held a solo exhibition entitled "Sea" at the Shimonoseki City Museum of Art in her birthplace. In this exhibition, Nomura will present a series of works that are uniquely finished by cutting out scenes from the intersection of flowers offered to a graveside, model Kenta, whom she has photographed since childhood, and uncontrollable emotions.
