Oscar Oiwa
Oscar Oiwa was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1965. After graduating from the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo in 1989, he has been engaged in artistic activities while moving his base between Tokyo and New York. His panoramic and dynamic paintings, imbued with satire and humor, explore the environment and social issues of each location based on his experiences in major cities. They have earned high acclaim internationally, with many of his works being collected by museums both in Japan and abroad.

His solo exhibition at Tsutaya Bookstore in Kyoto is titled "Light Shop." It unfolds the narrative of his works based on the imagination of what constitutes "spiritual food," essential for nourishing the soul, akin to the importance of food in building a healthy body, and the type of establishments that provide such sustenance.

As part of the exhibition, Oiwa will also create "food stalls," familiar elements of the Japanese landscape where people gather under the light, cozy ambiance. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the warm and gentle light depicted by Oscar Daiwa and experience a fulfilling appreciation of his art.
