Park Sunhwa
While working on the reproduction of Buddhist paintings from the Goryeo Dynasty to the Joseon Dynasty in Korea, Park Sunhwa not only studied painting techniques but also materials such as Japanese paper and indigo and conservation and restoration techniques. Park says that as she traced the lines once painted with her brush and learned about the materials and techniques of a bygone era, she came to realize that she was trying to receive and share not only the people who painted and their expressions but also the thoughts of many people entrusted in the paintings and materials.

Following her solo exhibitions "Thoughts" in 2018 and "Connecting" in 2020, this exhibition will consist of about 30 works created by Park since 2018, along with a large work such as a 3m x 2m "Reproduction of Amitabha Buddha" from Hirotokuji Temple. Park was assigned to provide guidance and advice on the project to reproduce the National Treasure No. 314 at Songgwangsa Temple in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, which began in 2018, and some of these works were created to "communicate" reproduction techniques and material characteristics to local staff, who were unable to travel easily to and from the area due to COVID-19.

Park, who still travels back and forth between Japan and Korea to copy and study Buddhist paintings, says that by working with her own hands, she became aware of the feelings entrusted in the works, felt the connection between people and cultures, and was reminded of the difficulty and significance of conveying these feelings to the local staff.
