Peter Sís
Peter Sis is one of the leading contemporary American picture book authors. His works have been honored with numerous picture book awards, including the International Andersen Award.

Born in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) in 1949, Sis studied animation in Prague and London, where he studied abroad. At the time, however, Czechoslovakia was under the dark shadow of the Cold War, and creative expression was not permitted. Influenced by his father, an internationally active filmmaker, and his grandfather, who had lived in the United States, Sisu, who had been exposed to diverse cultures from an early age, chose to work in the United States in search of greater freedom of expression.

Sisu's picture books vary in theme, including works depicting her feelings toward her native Czech Republic, works for small children, stories of heroes who have traveled the wide world, and biographies of great men of strong will, such as Darwin and Galileo. In addition, his creative trajectory is filled with a thirst and joy for expression, as seen in his animations, illustrations for newspapers and magazines, and art projects for public spaces.

This exhibition introduces several works that are interwoven with darkness and dreams, which Sis has created throughout his life, tracing his path from shadow to light.
