The Kanagawa Music Hall, which turns 69 years old this year, has hosted not only music-related concerts, from classical music to songs, from solo concerts to symphony orchestras, but also plays, butoh, ballet, ballroom dancing, rakugo, joruri, record listening parties, film festivals, Chinese acrobats, beauty and bride shows, and all kinds of other events. Since the period of cultural revival after World War II, the festival has watched over the lives of people on a small hill in Sakuragi-cho.
Since last year, "Picnic" has been a part of this historic lineup. It is still fresh in our memories that the previous spring's performance, in which eight groups of exceptionally talented performers and the audience teamed up to tickle and relax the music hall from top to bottom for five hours. The avant-garde atmosphere was so restful that the performers, audience, and backstage staff all flew off into space with the concert hall as their mothership. The mysterious picnic of ear travel turned into a great space walk of sound.
From there, the earth also made a revolutionary turn. Flowers bloom and insects emerge from the earth. Spring is at its peak. The music hall's pulse continues to beat in this spring as well, lulled by the balancing balance of light and shadow, and the overtone universe that pours in as many stars as there are stars, the other world and this world are meltingly and gently sleeping together.
