Pilots and Balloonists: 'Soar away, fluttering high.' - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Jiro Horikoshi, Sakutaro Hagiwara

Maebashi City Museum of Literature
Finished
In the 1930s, three contemporaries were drawn to the sky. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), the author of "The Little Prince," published his works while flying as a pilot, while Jiro Horikoshi (1903-1982), the model for the Studio Ghibli film "The Wind Rises," focused on aircraft design. And poet Sakutaro Hagiwara (1886-1942) entrusted his thoughts to the sky in his poem "Dream of a Balloonist."

What thoughts did these three individuals have as they looked up at the sky? This exhibition was born from such a delightful idea. Like birds wanting to fly through the sky, pilots. Like clouds wanting to float in the sky, balloonists.

As a first attempt, the Literature Museum has enlisted the help of six professors from the Faculty of Literature at Gunma Prefectural Women's University for panel exhibitions and has arranged a special schedule.
