Pol Malói
Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present “Acceptance,” a solo exhibition by Pol Maló, running from Saturday, April 26 through Sunday, May 18.
Pol Maló is a transnational artist working across a range of media, including painting, installation, and sound art.

For the artist, the act of creating is both a form of purification—or perhaps a way of bringing problems to the surface—and a means of communication with others. At the same time, it is a way of reexamining the relationship between the self and the world. It is sometimes said that “expression saves,” but whether we call it “purification” or “salvation,” it is hardly something that can be interpreted in a simple way—it is far more complex.

Pol Maló describes salvation as a process of re-evaluating the reality of adversity, a process that can provoke thought in the viewer and offer a kind of catharsis.

“My works are neither a psychoanalytic nor spiritual project but rather a struggle with reality as it shows itself in the residue of that struggle. This struggle is not all-seeing or enlightened but rather blind or half-seeing, searching for light but at the same time with the background fear that things might never become clear or understood but always remain in the half-shadow, chiaroscuro (or komorebi) of a world all too readily tempting us to reduce it to a high-contrast black or white perception, instead of the mysterious, unclear, very human, and chaotic life-as-it-is (-but how is it?). Things are not clear, nor is my art clear; they reflect living as an artist in these times.”

In “Acceptance,” Pol Maló’s work once again becomes a kind of “device” that transcends understanding or misunderstanding—guiding both the artist and the viewer toward a state of receptivity, in which complexity and uncertainty are embraced as they are.
We warmly invite you to experience the exhibition.
