Artists

Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Robert Indiana, James Rosenquist, Tom Wesselmann et al.
Pop art took the art world by storm in 1960s America by incorporating everyday motifs and images—such as press photos, commercial advertisements, mass-produced packaging, and celebrity portraits—into fine art.

Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008), and Jasper Johns (1930-) are among the most prominent American artists who led the pop art movement. During a tumultuous era marked by anti-war and civil rights movements, these artists transformed the relationship between art and society through their engagement with popular culture and rock music.

This exhibition, making its debut in Japan, features approximately 120 prints, posters, and clothing items from the collection of Spanish collector José Luis Rupérez, showcasing works by around eight artists. The exhibition highlights the "Fabulous Four"—a name inspired by the nickname of The Beatles, who also rose to fame in the 1960s—focusing on the works of Lichtenstein, Warhol, Rauschenberg, and Johns, tracing the impact of pop art on the era.
