Artists

Rebecca Salter
In commemoration of the first anniversary of the opening of Nara Historical Art and Culture Village, the work of artist Rebecca Salter will be featured. Born and living in England, Salter spent two years in graduate school at Kyoto City University of Arts, followed by four years in Japan. Greatly influenced by the oriental perception of space and handling of materials, she has continued to visit Japan after returning to Japan. She is also currently the President of the Royal Academy of Arts.

Salter's works are characterized by the way he permeates Japanese paper and cloth as three-dimensional objects and repeatedly draws detailed patterns on them. In this exhibition, he will exhibit his early works created while living in Japan and new works using "Uda-gami," which is also used for the restoration of cultural properties.
