Rediscover Migishi Kotaro

Migishi Kotaro Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Kotaro Migishi
Kotaro Migishi (1903-1934), born in Sapporo, moved to Tokyo at 18 with dreams of becoming a painter. Migishi quickly adapted to new artistic trends and gained recognition. Yet, tragically, Migishi passed away at 31, leaving behind a brief but impactful 10-year career that left a lasting mark on Western-style painting in Japan. This year marks the 120th anniversary of Migishi's birth and the 40th anniversary of a museum dedicated to Migishi's work. This exhibition revisits Migishi's artistic journey, focusing on key elements like "gardens," "lines," "diagonal and horizontal lines," "gray/white," and "shadows."
