Rieko Otake
This exhibition commemorates the publication of “Hanako” a collection of works by sculptor Rieko Otake.

Otake has been creating wood sculptures made of camphorwood, cypress, and katsura, and finished without coloring. The interesting posture of the figures and their expressionless yet profoundly strong eyes give them a mysterious presence as if they have a spiritual nature. The charm of Ohtake's work lies in the delicacy of the presence that lies within the rough-hewn wood. People, birds, and scenes that seem like a dream, like a memory from somewhere, are somehow connected to the viewer, and the charm of the work expands.

This exhibition traces the transition of Ohtake's work from his early years in 2006 to his latest work in 2022. It also delves into the periphery of Otake's creative process, interspersing his first prints, drawings that have never been exhibited, and scenes from his studio that offer a glimpse into his creative process. The detailed binding by Yuri Suyama and text by Toshiyuki Horie and Tsutomu Mizusawa further expand the world of Rieko Otake's work.
