Rosetsu Nagasawa "Life, Legacy, and Boundless Imagination"

Kyushu National Museum
Finished

Artists

Rosetsu Nagasawa et al.
Rosetsu Nagasawa, a popular painter who thrived in Kyoto in the late 18th century, is still affectionately known as the "eccentric painter" and is highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally. This winter, a comprehensive exhibition tracing Nagasawa's artistic career will make its debut in Kyushu.

The exhibition will feature carefully selected works, ranging from his representative piece "Dragon and Tiger Paintings on Fusuma" (preserved at Muryo-ji Temple, Wakayama, and the Kuramoto Oki Ashiyuki Hall) to works from his early period to his later years.

Furthermore, this exhibition will present exquisite masterpieces by contemporaries of Nagasawa, such as Jakuchu Ito, Okyo Maruyama, Taiga Ike, and Buson Yosa. Viewers will be guided through the painting world of 18th-century Kyoto, where Japanese art masters competed and ignited creative energy.
