Ruri Matsumoto
Bluesdress Shibuya is currently hosting the first Tokyo solo exhibition titled "Broken Line Transparent Blue" by Ruri Matsumoto (1981-), an artist achieving international acclaim based in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Matsumoto's works are part of the collections at contemporary art museums such as Museum MARTa Herford in Germany and the historic Rijksmuseum Amsterdam in the Netherlands, earning high praise primarily in Europe. His participation in a group exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mondrian's birth held at the Fiannen Municipal Museum from the end of last year to this spring, and his involvement in a group exhibition currently taking place at the Escher Museum, are indicative of Matsumoto's increasing recognition.

Now, at the solo exhibition at bluesdress Shibuya, a variety of colors, including "Transparent Blue," can be observed in Matsumoto's exhibited works. Colors flow vertically like stripes or spread horizontally like borders. However, what's crucial is that the brush never moves "directly" horizontally or vertically. The vividly colored "lines" with widths ranging from a few millimeters to centimeters run across the screen diagonally or slightly varying their width while moving either vertically or horizontally.
