Ryozo Tsumaki Exhibition

Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Ryozo Tsumaki
This exhibition introduces recent works by Ryozo Tsumaki (1974- ), who creates paintings with pencil that evoke primordial landscapes of mountains, waves, and clouds with their characteristic folds.

Born in Yuasa-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, Tsumaki began creating with pencil in 1998 while a student at Musashino Art University's Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art and Design and completed the oil painting course at the university's Graduate School of Art and Design in 2001. After working as an artist in Tokyo, he returned to his hometown in 2008, where he continues to create while serving as a priest at his own temple, Honjoji.

In this exhibition, Tsumaki's work will not only be on display but also the cloth forms that inspired his work will be shown for the first time as an installation. The space, which will be configured to fit the exhibition space of the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Art Museum, will be a place where the image of a landscape eroding through the proliferation of folds, which is a key element of Tsumaki's work, will be presented.
