Ryuta Fukumura
Ceramic artist Ryuta Fukumura is based in Ukiha, Fukuoka Prefecture. Born in 1989, Fukumura creates pottery that draws inspiration from tradition whilst exploring the new possibilities of materials as the second generation of the ‘Nichigetsu Kiln’. His ceramics, fired in a traditional Nobori-gama (climbing kiln) combine minerals, natural ashes and silver glazes to achieve unique techniques, forms and textures that find value in finishes that may otherwise be overlooked or considered failures in pottery.

"The Natural Beauty of Man-made Objects" was conceived based on Fukumura's experience of participating in the exhibiition "Substream" by Koichi Nishizaka (Hakujitu) held at the gallery in 2023. This exhibition consists of new wall-mounted works crafted from fragments of tile, as presented at "Substream," alongside large vases of various sizes, forms and glazes. In the inorganic space of the gallery Fukumura creates an environment where man-made and natural objects are interwoven by placing ceramic works created by the collaboration of natural materials and humans.
