ZERO is pleased to present Lead Up the Garden Path, a solo exhibition by German artist Sam Evans (b. 1995), whose work spans photography, video, and mixed media. Rooted in analog techniques and a background in Fine Art, Evans explores the entanglement of body and landscape, memory and myth—constructing visual fragments that are at once poetic, elusive, and quietly disorienting.

Lead Up the Garden Path invites viewers into a world shaped by half-remembered places, where nature is both setting and illusion. The exhibition title—drawn from an English idiom for gentle deception—reflects the way these works intentionally mislead, not to confuse, but to create space for poetic mistranslation. What appears grounded in reality is quickly upended by personal mythology, fantastical elements, and dreamlike shifts in logic.

Evans’s hand-colored prints and analog photographs do not aim to represent the world as it is, but as it is felt, recalled, and reimagined. In this wild garden, nature becomes a collaborator in the search for belonging, a mirror for identity, and a stage for fiction. The path is winding, the signs unclear, and the destination unknown—but in this instability lies the possibility of transformation.
