Satoru Kurata
In addition to this exhibition, Satoru Kurata will hold solo exhibitions at Sunday, Capsule (Ikejiri, Tokyo), presenting new work at three locations simultaneously.

Kurata's work depicts mask-like animalized humans and anthropomorphic animals with a serene presence, humorous and sometimes disturbing. Recurring motifs in the works are inspired by "personal" experiences that remain strong in the artist's memory, such as dusk, the sea, night, cars, eggs, and the act of sleeping. Between such inspirations and the repetition of digital drawings and material processes of production, Kurata "raises and lowers the resolution of the image" to explore expressions that could only be possible in painting.

This exhibition consists of Kurata's recent series of paintings in which the canvas is divided into multiple sections. The artist has used similar techniques in the past, but his new works are characterized by the coexistence of different first-person views from each character's point of view on a single canvas. This composition gives the viewer the impression of reliving a scene from his own memory or dream, and at the same time, as Kurata states, "I am trying to create an autistic visual space in which neither the artist nor the viewer intervenes. Who is looking at the painting?"
