Seohee Kim
Seohee Kim, born in Seoul, South Korea, is a researcher and artist. Kim recently completed a two-month Artist-in-Residence program in Tokyo, which serves as the basis for this exhibition. During the residency, Kim explored the relationship between clothing, personal boundaries, and spatial expression in the context of Tokyo's hot and crowded streets. The artist noted how the act of using parasols in Tokyo, especially in the heat, allowed for personal space and protection from external factors. This experience contrasted with the artist's preconceived notions about the use of parasols in Korean culture. Kim's project involves deconstructing clothing to create parasols, examining the ways these two elements interact with personal space. The exhibition visually represents the rhythmic movement of people with parasols and the fluidity of personal boundaries. It invites the audience to become co-creators by connecting fabric pieces to unfinished parasols, drawing inspiration from 1990s Japan and a DIY spirit.
