Artists

Shiho Yoshida
This exhibition by Shiho Yoshida commemorates the 100th anniversary of Tokyo Polytechnic University's founding.

Yoshida, who is also an alumna of our university, is a prominent young photographer who has garnered attention not only in the world of photography but also in the art world. Her distinctive approach involves the fusion of analog and digital processes, and she excels in creating installations that consider the exhibition space as part of the artwork.

In this exhibition, Yoshida has taken high-resolution digital photographs and enlarged them into prints several meters in size, only to re-photograph them with cameras of various resolutions and models. Surprisingly, despite capturing the same photograph, the images produced vary significantly depending on the camera used. Different cameras offer distinct perspectives through their viewfinders, resulting in varying perceptions of the scene. Yoshida believes that each of these perspectives possesses its own unique personality and charm.

This exhibition showcases her latest works alongside some of her notable pieces, such as "Survey | Mountain," making it her first solo exhibition with new works since receiving the Kimura Ihei Award.
