Shinpei Yoshida paints found-photo portraits to reveal the "presence of absence" lurking behind the portraits. His works are full of personal intimacy, but at the same time, they are impressive for their blurred images that contain a sense of emptiness and loneliness. "Imagining another person's life is like looking at something that is already in front of you, but which you have not seen, and I want to try to remember that," says Yoshida.

Yoshida has been showing a series of colored pencil portraits since 2018, but in this exhibition, titled "Absence of Bedroom," he will return to the origins of his painting and show newly created oil paintings.

A gallery talk by the artist will be held on Saturday, September 9, from 13:30 to 14:30 at the gallery.
