Shingo Kanagawa
Shingo Kanagawa, born in 1981, has been photographing his father since 2008, when he was a graduate student at Tokyo University of the Arts, and published his photo book "Father" (Seigensha) in 2016. Through the images of fathers, who are the closest strangers to us, his work has become a topic of conversation, questioning human existence that cannot be summed up in a single word in terms of social or family systems.

The newly published "Long Time" (Nana Rui) is a book of photographs and diary entries about the 10 years Kanagawa spent with his aunt (his father's sister), whose whereabouts were unknown for several years, and whom he had been photographing in parallel with the "father" series since 2010. The two books are the culmination of Kanagawa's 15 years of photographing “family as strangers."

This exhibition, held to commemorate the publication of "Long Time," will feature his latest work, "July-October 2022/Self-Portraits." It will feature a monthly zine of photographs and diaries from the four months from July to October 2022, which were previously published on the web, as well as self-portraits taken during the same period. On July 1, a talk event will be held with novelist Yasuhisa Ota as a guest speaker.
