Shinichi Takashima + Shu Nakagawa "No Experience Necessary"

Sprout Curation 1006
Finished

Artists

Shinichi Takashima, Shu Nakagawa
Shinichi Takashima and Shu Nakagawa produce videos without human presence, questioning the elusiveness of the camera, which itself does not appear on the screen, and utilizing its portability.

This year they started a project consisting of two parts that questions the conditions on which images are based. Part 2 is "No Experience Necessary" and Part 2 is "Visual Experience Without Video." Part 1 takes a minimalist approach to video, cutting elements from previous works to the bare minimum in terms of subject matter, location, and manipulation during filming and editing. In Part 2, they take a conceptualist approach, treating images as if their purpose is only to be screened and viewed with verbal descriptions and their characteristics illuminated in reverse.

“No Experience Necessary" is a job ad cliché meaning "no special skills are needed” and “anyone can learn it right away,” but the phrase also includes the conflicting nuance of "it is to do it without special provisions and the accumulation of trial and error.” In this exhibition, their first solo show at Sprout Curatorial, Takashima and Nakagawa will present new works.
