Shinjiro Omura has been researching textile techniques and expression, as well as the possibilities of materials while working mainly with knitwear as a means of expression.
Even with the same knitting technique, various expressions can be created by changing the tension and material of the knit. Omura has focused on this transformation and has been researching and practicing various knitting techniques. Currently, he is working on an unconventional method of expression based on the theme of "brilliance" created by the shape of gold threads and body movements. Omura describes "radiance" as not only visually beautiful, but also as "protecting and releasing oneself. He also uses the word "conviction" to describe the process of discovering, recognizing, and accepting one's existence as one's gaze meets the gaze of others, in other words, "conviction" is the first time one's own "radiance" is released.
In this exhibition, Omura will showcase his latest textile works and tablet paintings. He intuitively created textile works using a material that he is currently interested in, which is a PVC-coated gold thread woven with various types of wire. The works are displayed on the wall at different tensions to show them as independent pieces. The works are not intended to be used as "knitwear" but rather to explore the appeal of knitwear itself. The paintings created using a tablet are works that pursue "light" by using abstract shapes, and you can feel the expression of "light" differently from the knitwear works.
The "Glance" series, created during Omura's graduate school years, and "Vibes Hiding in Pipes," his undergraduate thesis work, will then be exhibited in a new development. These seven works were originally made to be worn as clothing, but in this exhibition, they will be hung from the ceiling to show a different side of them.
