Shinya Tanoue
Potter Shinya Tanoue was born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1976. After graduating from university, while working as a full-time employee, he studied at the Ceramic Art Course of the Department of Fine Arts at Kyoto Saga Art University. He graduated in 2003. Until 2017, he served as a lecturer at the same university and continues to create works in Kyoto.

Tanoue shapes Shigaraki clay by hand and fires it with a blue glaze. Under the theme of "Shell (Kara)," he intertwines various meanings within three-dimensional works, such as the emptiness of "void," the "shell" of an egg, and the blues of the sea and sky, representing the source of life's birth. Decorated with white glaze and using the technique of scratching, lines radiate from the center, and the hollow shape suggests a relationship between "inside" and "outside" and conveys energy reminiscent of emerging from an eggshell.

In 2023, Tanoue attracted attention for his participation in the exhibition "Leap Makers," held at the Kyoto Kyocera Museum of Art, which introduced artists who have shown remarkable activities with flexible ideas. He has also received high praise internationally.

The title of this exhibition, "Kara Rimiso Ramafu (Kara Rimisoramafu)," is said to encapsulate the sentiment of the works "dancing lightly towards the sky." During the exhibition, approximately 30 pieces will be displayed, including large works created anew and small items such as vessels that can be incorporated into daily life.
