Artists

Shōei Matsuda, Shu Yonezawa
This two-person exhibition features up-and-coming Japanese artists Shoei Matsuda and Shu Yonezawa.

Shu Yonezawa returns to the etymology of animation, "to breathe anima (soul) into," and explores the space between existence and non-existence with his unique expression.

Shoei Matsuda has an established reputation for his works that sharply cut into the world after the Internet.

The word "irony" is derived from the Greek word eironia (εἰρωνεία), which means "falsehood, mask, disguised ignorance." The state of disconnect between appearance and reality is in the foreground, and from there, irony is derived as a language technique of rhetoric, including paradox, satire, and Socratic question-and-answer methods.
