Shogo Ota
Shogo Ota (1939-2007) was one of the leading directors and playwrights of contemporary Japanese theater, and his works have fascinated many people beyond the boundaries of time, region, or performing arts genre. Even now, 16 years after his death, his works are attracting more and more attention.

What do the footsteps of Shogo Ota, who pioneered a unique style called "silent theater" and continued to challenge new areas of expression, tell today? This exhibition is an attempt to reconsider these questions through the introduction of valuable theatrical performance materials.

The many unpublished materials in the exhibition space, including manuscripts, scripts, and stage videos left behind by Ota, offer a glimpse into his deep contemplation as he sought expressions that responded to the times, seeking the irreplaceability of each moment of human life. The "words" and "silence" generated in the creative process have the power to provide a perspective on our modern society, where a vast amount of information is consumed instantaneously, and on our lives and lifestyles.
