This exhibition, themed encounter with wild orangutans," showcases black-and-white photographs taken on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Unlike orangutans seen in zoos, these works capture the orangutans living freely in their natural habitat. The photographer, who studied anthropology and photography, brings a wealth of experience documenting diverse cultures and people's lives, which is reflected in the exhibited works.

The photographer studied anthropology and photography at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and wrote a master's thesis at Western Michigan University that portrayed the lives of Jamaican coffee farmers through photography and poetry. Additionally, the photographer studied abroad at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and, after returning to Japan, participated in support efforts for the Tohoku earthquake as an NPO staff member assisting disaster victims. Following experiences as an international interpreter and a salaried worker, the photographer co-founded I&S Photography Studio with a college friend and has continued to work as a professional photographer. Under the mentorship of photographers Sue Rezon and Masato Seto, the photographer honed their skills and regularly traveled to the Sumatran jungle every three months to photograph orangutans.

This exhibition embodies the photographer's passion for wild orangutans and their desire to share the natural beauty of these creatures with a wider audience.
