Shoko Nakazawa
After working as a graphic designer and illustrator, Shoko Nakazawa has produced multifarious soft vinyl monster figures, including adorable original characters such as Byron, Seedlas, and Tokke. The soft vinyl monsters have been released in an array of colors and variations and they have a large and deep-rooted fan base.
Nakazawa also began creating oil paintings in 2021. In March of that year, she exhibited her first oil painting in a group exhibition "Healing x Healing" at Kaikai Kiki Gallery. Since then, Nakazawa has presented her work at various international art fairs including Art Basel Hong Kong and Taipei Dangdai. Her paintings featuring her monsters, which originated in soft vinyl, have attracted the attention of collectors in many countries, and interest is rising in the artist’s future work.
This exhibition, Nakazawa’s first solo show, will feature more than 10 of her new paintings. Nakazawa has established a new atelier and is working on a series of larger paintings this year. For this exhibition, she has produced a series of paired paintings, each pair with its own theme.
Along with the paintings, the exhibition will also feature a sculpture of Byron/Zombie version, created in collaboration with the Kaikai Kiki sculpting team and hand-colored by the artist.
Shoko Nakazawa will also participate in "Roppongi Art Night 2022" which will take place in the Roppongi Hills area from September 17 (Sat) to September 19 (Mon) and "Roppongi Art Night Group Exhibition," held at Kaikai Kiki Gallery from September 9 (Fri) to September 24 (Sat).
