Shunsuke Matsumoto was born in 1912 and was a Western-style painter who developed his career during the Second World War, passing away shortly after the end of the war in 1948. He can be considered a painter who marked the endpoint of modern Japanese art, delineated by the conclusion of the war.
Matsumoto's work exudes a sense of serenity and lyricism while encapsulating a complexity that cannot be fully described by these qualities alone. His life story also contributes to this complexity.
