Artists

Shuntaro Tanikawa
Since the 1960s, poet Shuntaro Tanikawa, who passed away at the age of 92 in November 2024, has created as many as 200 picture books in collaboration with various artists and photographers. Word play, clues to understanding the world, the joy of nonsense. He has attempted to express through pictures and words themes such as the fun, difficulty, and preciousness of life, as well as death and war. What these diverse picture books have in common is Shuntaro Tanikawa's hopeful gaze toward the reader. The exhibition will feature approximately 20 picture books, and will feature original illustrations from the picture books, videos in which pictures and words come to life, readings and sounds, giant picture scrolls, and original installation works, all of which will be exhibited by a variety of creators. This is an interesting exhibition that will take you out of the world of picture books and can be enjoyed by everyone, from children to adults.
