Signature Exhibition #01 "Doubtfulness"

Artists

Kenji Chiga, Takahiro Maki
This exhibition is characterized by the artist and the marketer approaching the single theme of "believing" and "doubting" in different ways.

Kenji Chiga, who creates artwork based on careful research, used three objects (stones, acupuncture points, and bananas) as motifs for this exhibition, researching superstitions, myths, and customs. "Belief System I, Stone: Not the Power of Stones, but the Power of Will," a work modeled after a book that collects images related to the awe that is generated by levitating stones, makes us feel as if stones are precious and sacred. On the other hand, in the video work "When Stones Become Celestial Bodies," stones are presented as mere objects. The viewer is repeatedly made to experience "doubting" and "believing" through the work.

Meanwhile, marketer Takahiro Maki surveyed people's awareness of "believing. The survey included 120 items, ranging from life lessons such as "Do good to others and it will eventually come back to you" to science-related questions such as "Dinosaurs were wiped out by a meteorite," and was compiled into the "Doubtfulness Map. The facts of what people believe and doubt are presented visually and clearly, encouraging viewers to think.

Through the experience of going back and forth between the artwork and the data exhibition, this exhibition aims to nurture people's "Issue Literacy."
