Snow, Moon, Flowers of Bijin-ga - The Bai Kōan Collection

Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
The melancholic portrayal of women, represented by artist Yumeji Takehisa's "Yumeji Bijin," and the depiction of modern lifestyles by new women, were abundant during the Taisho and early Showa periods. From the Bai Kōan Collection, which has spent considerable time and passion collecting such "beauty portraits," approximately 150 masterpieces by Eastern and Western beauty portrait painters will be specially exhibited. This includes artists primarily active in Kyoto and Osaka, such as Shoen Uemura, Tsunetomi Kitano, Shima Seien, and Bakusen Tsuchida, along with followers of the Edo ukiyo-e tradition like Kiyokata Kaburaki, Shinsui Ito, and Shuho Yamakawa. This exhibition marks one of the largest-scale exhibitions among those previously held featuring the Bai Kōan Collection. It is a must-see exhibition where visitors can enjoy the changes in the era, social trends, unique expressions of each artist, and the evolution of female beauty through the artworks.
