Incubation Center Koca will hold an art exhibition and performance event, "Stopover," on July 7 (Fri.) and 8 (Sat.), 2023.

A stopover on your journey will always deliver surprises and new discoveries. Is its freshness due to the deviation from the continuous scenery of the train window? Or is it due to the sudden encounter with the unknown, outside the continuity of memory? In either case, we find something of great vitality and value in the moment when the sequence of being is unexpectedly severed and the moment appears in its vividness.

Experiencing art in galleries, museums, and art fairs, detached from the processes of life, is indeed pleasurable. Yet, an art experience accidentally encountered in the course of our activities, such as on a stopover during a journey, may trigger an even more vibrant sense of catharsis. We feel changed by its momentary, incidental flavor in the midst of the everyday.

The title "stopover" is inspired by the fact that the venue, Koca, is located directly under the elevated railway structure. The two-day event is, therefore, like a stopover on a rail journey. Travelers to Stopover can simultaneously experience the art show and a charming town that still functions by small factories and retro shopping streets.

At Koca and Senrokuya café, sculptural exhibits will reveal the workaday process of creating artwork, and installations and video art will be exhibited that express dynamism and continuous development. In the evenings, the event will feature audio-visual performances, which are themselves a presentation of the process, and project live video onto the architectural rooftop structure of the outdoor open space and bar.

This exhibition is held in collaboration with Senrokuya, Art Akiya / Nito, and Safi, also located along the Keikyu Line.
