The exhibition is organized by Amadour, an independent curator based in Los Angeles, and will feature works by six artists in total: Aaron Fowler, Alex Anderson, April Street, Devendra Banhart, Erin Desmond, and Sayre Gomez. The “Synth" exhibition will feature works by six artists.

Synth brings together artists who have worked together to explore and energetically represent the diverse urban landscape of Los Angeles. Using painting, sculpture, ceramics, and photography showcasing Southern California's rich natural terrain, urban visual culture, and cinematic romanticism, the exhibition will serve as an introduction to these landscapes in Tokyo.

Aaron Fowler creates massive works of art from discarded commodities. The central motif of his work is the shoe. This is one symbol that has significant meaning in African American culture and hip-hop culture, with which he identifies his identity. For this exhibition, he created a two-meter-long shoe as a tribute to the connection between hip-hop and Harajuku fashion, as well as a wall sculpture of an El Camino he found in his Harajuku neighborhood. The sculptures are made from car parts sourced in Tokyo and are augmented by a landscape painting of the city's sky and buildings that Fowler painted on a rooftop in Harajuku.

Sayre Gomez and Erin Desmond attempt to respond to the Harajuku cityscape paintings through their own work of the Los Angeles landscape. While Gomez's work directs the viewer's gaze toward the man-made aspects of Los Angeles, Desmond's photographs draw us back to nature, with nude bodies arching around California sunsets and grass and trees.

April Street's work follows Desmond's, drawing us into a fantastical jungle of vibrant vegetation that echoes the pastoral tones of Los Angeles. Alex Anderson, on the other hand, is closer to Gomez's point of view, which is also reflected in his work. His seemingly pretty ceramics betray us with dark motifs that, upon closer inspection, make us think about the glamorous yet shallow lifestyles offered by the big cities. Venezuelan-American musician and artist Devendra Banhart's works are powerful drawings of the relationship with society, fitting the final piece of this exhibition emotionally and spiritually.

Los Angeles and Harajuku, two cities that share the stereotypical perception of being ideal places of freedom and self-expression, both have the unique distinction of being important cultural muse sites. Many people continue to flock to both cities for inspiration or to pursue their dreams. As both cities are transformed by outside influences and changing infrastructures, it is more important than ever to reconsider what exactly is at the core of a creative city.
